Forever Homes exists to help abused, abandoned, and, neglected children find healing, love, and, safety in permanent homes.
We provide support for families who are currently parenting former orphaned and foster children. Through monthly support group meetings, trainings, therapeutic services, retreats, we are helping families through the very difficult and emotional task of helping abused and abandoned children heal.
Our current strategy to reach this goal is to find ways to train, support and encourage potential and future adoptive parents. We know that successful parents who are well supported are more likely to endure to the end and continue their work. We believe that if potential parents know how to do this work that we will lower the barriers to adoption.
Two of the biggest needs for foster and adoptive parents we are working to rectify:
- Medical professionals (counselors, doctors, psychologists, psychiatrists, occupational therapists, speech therapists) with an in depth knowledge of the effects of complex trauma on the developing brain and an EQUAL ability to turn that knowledge into practical techniques that can be used by families every day to help their children reach their full potential.
- Respite Care. Adoptive and foster parents are in the trenches and need breaks to be able to be patient with and look lovingly at their children.
